Dodo TicketsBlack Country Communion is an exciting supergroup that brings together the outstanding talents of Glenn Hughes (Deep Purple, Black Sabbath, Trapeze), blues rock guitar legend Joe Bonamassa, Jason Bonham (Led Zeppelin, Sammy Hagar, Foreigner) and Derek Sherinian (Dream Theater, Sons of Apollo). Their groundbreaking rock style is heavily influenced by British and American classic hard rock and blues rock music.
The reputation they have built in the 15 years since their formation – not only as great songwriters, but also as a rousing live act – is matched only by their dedication to their craft and willingness to challenge each other to make the best music imaginable. The nucleus of this supergroup can be found in the artistic interaction between Hughes and Bonamassa that led to the formation of this band. Producer Kevin Shirley (Aerosmith, Iron Maiden), who has been the mastermind behind the controls of all their studio work from the very beginning and remains so to this day (and thus something like the silent fifth member), then suggested drummer Bonham in order to turn the originally loose project into something more serious. Shortly afterwards, keyboardist Sherinian joined because Bonamassa wanted to avoid the impression that this supergroup was a pure “hard rock power trio”.
With the release of their self-titled debut album, the band burst onto the rock scene like a rare virtuoso supernova. This album already manifested what all four subsequent albums – “2” (2011), “Afterglow” (2012), “BCCIV” (2017) and “V” (2024) – have reflected: Firstly, that each album represents a self-contained stylistic unit, but at the same time is clearly different from all other works. And secondly, that although the songwriting phase can be extensive, the band only ever spends around a week in the studio for the actual recordings. If only to keep the music as fresh and direct as the band sounds live on stage. As internationally successful as all five albums are, planning tours is also complicated, especially due to Bonamassa’s extremely successful solo career, which has been going strong for decades. In 15 years, the band rarely managed to organize a large, coherent tour – let alone a world tour. In the meantime, the band even disbanded due to this problem. So we can now be all the more euphoric that Black Country Communion will be going on a major European tour next summer – and in this context will also be playing three undoubtedly stunning shows in Germany.
